 Coal-based granular activated carbon is a porous carbonized material made from coal and is mainly used as an adsorbent. Its preparation process generally includes two steps: carbonization and activation of coal. Coal undergoes high-temperature pyrolysis to produce carbides, which are then activated through physical or chemical methods to develop a wide range of pore structures, including micropores, mesopores, and macropores.

Features:

1. High adsorption performance: Coal-based granular activated carbon has a high specific surface area, usually reaching hundreds to thousands of square meters per gram. This high specific surface area gives activated carbon good adsorption capacity.

2. Well-developed pores: Coal-based activated carbon has a rich pore structure inside, including micropores (diameter less than 2 nanometers), mesopores (diameter between 2 nanometers and 50 nanometers) and macropores (diameter greater than 50 nanometers). Micropores are particularly effective at adsorbing small molecules.

3. High strength: Compared with wood or fruit shell activated carbon, coal-based activated carbon usually has higher mechanical strength and is not easily broken.

4. Wear resistance: Coal-based activated carbon particles are wear-resistant and impact-resistant, have good physical stability, and are suitable for long-term use in various water treatment and gas purification systems.

5. Available in various forms: Coal-based activated carbon can be in the form of granules (pellets or small columns), powder or crushed particles of different sizes.

Application areas:

1. Water treatment: Coal-based granular activated carbon is widely used in drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, deep sewage purification and water softening. It can efficiently adsorb various organic substances, residual chlorine and heavy metal ions dissolved in water.

2. Gas purification: Used to remove harmful components in air or industrial gases, such as sulfur dioxide, ammonia, formaldehyde, benzene and other toxic gases. It is also often used for flue gas treatment and gas deodorization.

3. Chemical production: Used as a catalyst carrier or as an adsorbent in chemical reactions, such as adsorbing toxic hydrocyanic acid in the production of ammonia.

4. Metal extraction: In the gold refining industry, coal-based activated carbon is used to adsorb gold extracted from the slurry.

5. Pharmaceutical and food industry: Used to adsorb and remove unwanted ingredients and impurities in drugs, food or beverages, such as decolorization cleaning or purification of drugs in sugar production.
